Yahoo! Messenger step-by-step installation guide

I have shared in the previous post about Yahoo! Messenger, a Yahoo! instant messaging services. Now I want to continue with a step-by-step guide to install Yahoo Messenger application on your computer. You will need a web browser to download the installation file and an administrator account to install this software on your computer. And of course, internet connection is a must.

Please notice that official Yahoo! Messenger client is only available for windows based personal computer. However, you can use third party application for Yahoo Messenger on unix based machines. For now I will share messenger client application on windows.

1. Download Setup File
The first step is to download the setup file. Open the web http://messenger.yahoo.com and click on the link to download the setup/installation file into your computer. Click on the button Download Now to launch the download.


2. Save the File on your computer
For example, here I save the file on my desktop folder


3. Run the Installation File
Double click the msgrxus.exe file.


4. Security Warning
A Security Warning pop-up may appear on your screen. Click on Run to confirm and continue installation


5. Installation Configuration 1
A Welcome Window will appear. You may want to uncheck the two check box options on the screen. The first check box is to make www.yahoo.com as your browser home page, and the second one Yahoo! as your browser's default search engine. I usually uncheck all these boxes.
You can optionally click on custom install for an advanced configuration


6. Installation Configuration 2 - Custom Install
If you choose custom install, three additional check boxes will appear. I suggest you to uncheck all these options.


7. License Agreements and Terms of Services
Next window will be the License Agreement, Terms, and Privacy Policy. Read through the article and click/check on the check box if you agree with the license agreement and terms. You may only continue to the next steps if you accept the terms.


8. Final Confirmation
After you accept the term of services and privacy policy, a final confirmation will appear. Click on Install button to install Yahoo Messenger.


9. Installation Process
Yahoo! Messenger will then be installed on your computer. A progress bar on the window shows the progress of the installation.


10. Installation is Complete
Depending on your internet connection speed, the installation will take about a few minutes to one or two hours. If the instalation is complete, you will find a happy icon and a confirmation window that Yahoo! Messenger installation is complete. Now you can start or launch your Yahoo! Messenger client and start chating with your buddies.

Yahoo Messenger service is available for every Yahoo! Users. This service can be used by installing Yahoo! Messenger client software on PC or phone, accessing from Yahoo! new Webmail interface, and via Yahoo! Web Messenger.

What is Yahoo! Id
You need to have a Yahoo! ID to enjoy yahoo! services such as messaging and email service. Yahoo! ID is either a yahoo username, or a full string of Yahoo! email address for registered users oh Yahoo Domains. While chating and other instant messaging start with text-based services, it is difficult to express emotions through text. Thanks to the invention of emoticon, a combination of text and special characters to symbolize emotion of the parties in a text based dialogue.
In the first use, emoticon is just a text of two or three characters but now client and application automatically replace those characters with animated pictures.

Advertisement on Yahoo! Messenger application
The basic Yahoo! Messenger service is free for every yahoo! user because the service is funded by advertisement.
The Yahoo! Messenger advertisement is delivered in such a way so that the user may not recognise it as advertisement.

Google Chrome, a Fast and Reliable Web Browser from Google

What is your favourite web browser? What do you use surfing websites, enjoy youtube videos and read and write email on webmail services?

For me, the only internet web browser was Internet Explorer. I use it when I first learn about internet and open a web on the interent for the first time. But that was long long ago. As I learn internet more and more, I know about Mozilla Firefox, a free and fast web browser developed by Mozilla Volunteer community. Although it is free and open source, Mozilla Firefox is pretty fast and stable. I only found it unreliable when I become a heavy facebook user. It is seems unfriendly with the ajax and some javascripts on the facebook website.

My jorney with Mozilla Firefox ends when I found Google Chrome 2. I tried the beta and first release of Google Chrome, but it feels like a strange application when I first use it. Moreover, the first version is not able to render my website correctly. So I uninstall it soon after a few page and back to Mozilla Firefox.

After the release of new Google Chrome, I download the new version and install it. It is not even my intention to use it as my default browser, but after using it for a few minutes, I've found myself fall in love with the new google chrome. It renders facebook very fast, and it is stable. That is the only thing I hate on firefox, and google chrome now comes as a hero, fixing all javascripts issues.

Now, let me explain more about the google chome. There must be so many pros and cons about google chrome published on the internet but this is my version after using it for about one week. For me, Google Chome is now very easy to use, user friendly, fast, and reliable. I can open multiple pages in tabs and everything goes smooth when moving from one tab to another. And the very interesting thing is that you wont need to open google search engine web page everytime you want to search for someting. Simply tipe in your search in the address bar and press enter. The browser will translate it as a search query rather than a web page request. Combined with the google search engine technology, google chrome then deliver the search result directly in the page. That is awsome!

And now about the cons. I don't think I've found something I do not link on this browser, but the way it resolves my website query. As you know, mozilla firefox automatically tries to add thw www part on the web address you type in, google chome doesn't work the same way. Welll, that's all from me about google chome. Free Multimedia Player, VLC Media Player from VideoLAN

Everyone using windows is usually familiar with Windows Media Player, an ambedded media player on every windows installation. But now I would like to share an alternative media player you might have been waiting for.

VLC Media Player is a multimedia player developed under VideoLAN Project. I called it multimedia player, for it supports a large number of audio and video formats. MP3 and other MPEG series format are suppoerted as well as popular DVD and divX file formats. But I am using it now as a default player for 3gp files, wmv videos, and FLV flash video files while keep other file format to be played on Windows Media Player.

In addition, VLC Media Player from Video VideoLAN can be used for both media streaming server and streaming client. Generally, VLC is able to stream all file format that it can read. However, if you want a better solution for streaming, another VideoLAN sulition, VideoLAN Server (VLS) is advised.

Since VideoLAN project is run by volunteers and backed-up by non-profit organization, their products including VLC Media Player and VLS are available as free and open source software. The VideoLAN software products are released under GNU General Public License.

Now that you know about VLC Media Player and more VideoLAN Project, you may want to give it a try. JUst visit the organization website, VideoLAN.org and get the best Free MultiMedia Player.

Using Mozilla Firefox Web Browser

I have been using Mozilla Firefox, the free internet web browser for the last two years. From the old version of Mozilla Firefox 2.0, I feel it very exciting and it gives all I need from a browser. I install it all on my windows machines, even tough I had never removed the legacy Microsoft Internet Explorer. I think I might need it one day, at least for a back up.

Mozilla Firefox loads web pages faster then Internet Explorer. Pictures and scripts are all fine, loaded very fast especially with a broadband internet connection.

Search Engine is integrated in the browser. You can choose the search engine you like, from google, yahoo!, ask, and some more major search engine. In addition, there are thousands of Browser Add Ons available for download. For Example, you can install Ads Block add on to remove all ads on web pages you are viewing. This prevent you from pop up ads as well as in content advertisement on the web. By preventing Firefox to load all those ads, it also improves the web loading time.

So far I feel very comfortable with this browser. While it gives a great performance and a rich add ons, Mozilla Firefox web browser is absolutely free. So, why don't you try it too?
